The Elephant
coast - South Africa covers a large area of coast, lakes, sand
forests, dunes & bush stretching from
St. Lucia
in the south to
Kosi Bay in the north, across to the Lebombo mountains in
the west and includes the
Hluhluwe and Umfolozi
game reserves.
     
In the northern part of the Park is Sodwana Bay the scuba
diving mecca of Southern Africa, part of the Greater
St. Lucia Wetland Park boasting some
of the world's most southerly coral reefs - a perfect breeding
ground for a variety of marine creatures. This international
acclaimed scuba diving destination is home to the
rediscovered "Dinosaur of the deep" the Coelacanth or
commonly known as
"Old Four Legs".

Sodwana
Bay is not only for scuba divers although a must diving spot in South Africa for
the diving enthusiast. Sodwana Bay is situated on the coast of the Greater St.
Lucia Wetland Park with unspoiled white sandy beaches offering bathing, deep sea
fishing & snorkeling. Lush green coastal forests with teeming birdlife and
antelope form the backdrop to this paradise of blue waters contrasted with
golden beaches.
Advanced divers as well as beginners are
welcome (dive courses are offered) to experience these warm, crystal clear waters.
There are numerous scuba diving and tour operators in Sodwana Bay.
A
staggering eighty percent of South Africa's 1200 fish species occur
in the waters of the area around Sodwana Bay - part of the Greater St. Lucia
Wetland Park. There are also 95 identified species of soft & hard corals,
sponges & invertebrates, large marine life like the Humpback Whale, Whale
Sharks, Manta Ray & giant Morays alongside reef fish.
